Visitors to Germany's capital can enjoy watching and playing a wide variety of sports. Football is a popular spectator sport here and the local team, Hertha Berlin, has a large and loyal fan base and regularly plays at the Olympic Stadium, built in 1936. The city also has excellent facilities for golf, tennis, cycling, athletics, swimming, water sports, horseback riding and other activities.

Altogether, Berlin counts 16 golf courses among its sporting facilities, and the most central and convenient for visitors is Golf-Zentrum Berlin-Mitte, which is open to the public and can be found at Chaussee strasse 94 98. They offer a practice range, training and equipment, with extended hours.

Swimming is popular in the summer and there are actually lakeside beaches to be found at Wannsee and Tegeler See, or Grosser Müggelsee. Pools can be found at Bad am Spreewaldplatz, which is on Wiener Strasse, and there is also the enormous Sport- und Erholungszentrum (SEZ).

In addition tennis courts and fitness centres can be found throughout the city.
